MCM London Comic Con 2018: The App
With less than a week to go, preparations for MCM London Comic Con are full steam ahead. Having been taken over by US-based company ReedPop in October of 2017, this year’s Comic Con has already undergone a new logo, rebrand, a bigger guest list and has also launched a handy application for your smart devices.
Available on both the Apple and Android (Google Play) store, the app is a new feature that has been introduced this year for MCM London Comic Con. It includes handy information such as a list of retailers, schedules for each of the attraction stages over the three-day event, a list of guests and their respective prices for autographs and / or photo shoots and a map of the area (which is not still to be revealed). Users of the app can also create a custom schedule, making things arguably easier to plan and navigate their visit to Comic Con no matter how long or short they intend to stay at the event.
Whilst some parts of the app like maps and stage schedules are still under ‘coming soon’ , users of the app can already take a look at the lists and locations of exhibitors and dealers who will be present, along with upcoming news on exclusive attractions and merchandise that can be found over this Bank Holiday weekend. There is an ability to add your favourite guests and vendors to your personal profile to ensure that you do not lose out on a signing, talk or photo opportunity – or that you will not be hunting high and low for specific stores.
This is not the first time an app has been introduced for an event.
Last October, Rooster Teeth debuted their first European event with RTX London. Ahead of things, they launched an application packed full of handy information as well as a social area for fans to submit and share their photos of their experience of the event.
We at Renegade Revolution feel that convention apps are a great addition to utilise. They are handy and easy to disseminate information through – the MCM London Comic Con app actually updates itself upon start-up to ensure that users are supplied with the most up-to-date information at all times. It also saves a lot on the cost of printed schedules and programmes being handed out too, which in turn, can reduce the amount of litter left in and around the convention centre.
The only downside that we can think of so far is that the venue itself for MCM London Comic Con – the ExCeL London – has been known for being a little notorious with its phone signal and free Wi-Fi signal and stability. That being said, we are still pretty excited to see these kinds of changes and improvements being implemented on what is arguably one of the biggest geek events in the UK and we simply cannot wait to see what other new changes ReedPop will be bringing to Comic Con.
As always, Renegade Revolution will have a team on-site over the weekend to cover the event – so do keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr accounts for updates from us!
MCM London Comic Con will run from Friday 25th May 2018 to Sunday 27th May 2018 at the ExCeL, London.
Please also be advised that if you are travelling via public transport, Custom House DLR station will be closed over this weekend so do plan accordingly!
