This was actually the first convention that I had ever attended –and my first cosplay event – way back in May 2006. Obviously, things had gone quite positively as eleven years down the line, I am still an avid cosplayer and convention goer! I have seen this and many other conventions grow and change over the years and I have to say that MCM is still arguably one of the biggest conventions in the UK. It is most certainly one of the most popular in London.
So what can people expect to see this October?
Well, for a start, you may want to have a gander at our run down of MCM London Comic Con last October in our article by our Games Editor, Scott: http://www.renegade-revolution.com/2016/12/07/mcm-london-comic-con-october-2016-rundown/
MCM London Comic Con has most certainly expanded its floor space and attractions over the years, including the outer perimeters of the ExCeL Centre. Attendees can expect to see a wide variety of vendors catering for many different interests – video games, Blu-rays, anime merchandise and apparel to name a few examples. Stalls vary from well know big company names to smaller, more personal businesses and crafts.
Feeling peckish? We have seen an increasing amount of food and drink stalls popping up over the years. Recently, MCM have created dedicated areas where convention goers can experience a selection of tasty treats, along with tables and seating areas to avoid having to eat on the go (and potentially ruining any cosplays!).
Speaking of cosplay, what would be a convention without the cosplayers? So if you’re a budding photographer, do not forget to bring your camera and some spare batteries / memory cards with you – and cosplayers, better get planning! The last weekend of October may seem a long time away, but it will come in a flash and you most certainly do not want to be panicking and stressing out! We at Renegade HQ would like to remind everyone that most cosplayers have spent a lot of money on their costumes and are also paying attendees to MCM London Comic Con – so please be gentle with each other’s cosplays and photographers, please courteous when asking for photos. We know it sounds silly, but in the heat and excitement of a convention atmosphere, we have seen a few things get messy in the past!
For the avid gamers, expect to see all kinds of companies at the event – including big companies like Square Enix, Capcom, Nintendo and Bandai Namco. Expect to be able to have hands on experience with the latest games and have access to exclusive offers too.
Lastly, we strongly recommend checking the Transport for London website – www.tfl.gov.uk – to keep up with any potential planned engineering works that may disrupt your commute to and from the event (we believe Custom House DLR Station will still be closed over this event).
Renegade Revolution plan to have some of our team covering the long weekend event – so do keep an eye out on our social media pages for more information. We look forward to seeing you all there!
MCM London Comic Con will be held at the ExCeL London from Friday 27th October to Sunday 29th October 2017, with tickets available for sale from today. For more information, please check out their official website: http://www.mcmcomiccon.com/london/
