MCM London Comic Con May 2017: A Look Back

With MCM London Comic Con May 2017 three weeks gone, we take a good look back and check out our thoughts with links to our photo/video coverage of the event.

MCM London Comic Con brings a great mix of amazing cultures together over a three day weekend such as sci-fi, film, TV, comic books, gaming, anime and cosplay. The summer convention ended with 130,212 fans attending to see the multitude of attractions that the event offers. Each year, the cosplay and event seems to get bigger and bigger.

The guest list consisted of big names; most notably international action star and martial arts legend Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Hero), who recently starred on our screens as blind warrior Chirrut Îmwe in Star Wars: Rogue One. Doctor Who companion Catherine Tate, Verne Troyer – who played Mini-me for the Austin Power’s films – and the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers were also in attendance.

In the video games are, the big contenders were Tekken 7 from Bandai Namco Games, Agents of Mayhem from Koch media, Nintendo’s  Splatoon 2 and ARMS, and PlayStation had set up a big VR station showcasing Farpoint.

Cosplay… How can we talk about MCM without saying a little something about the wonderful cosplayers? Here at Renegade HQ, we are increasingly impressed with every passing year of attendance – seeing the costumes get bigger and more unique. With new games, comics and anime being constantly released, we enjoy seeing new ideas and characters in and around the ExCeL London. Our team of photographers were out trying to snap up as much as possible over the long weekend so be sure to check out our gallery in the link below.

Other attractions included eSports tournaments, anime distributors, retailers, exhibitors and the bustling VidfestUK – the European event for fans of online video and web series.

MCM, the ExCeL security and the Metropolitan Police did an amazing job, especially considering the recent tragic attacks in both London and Manchester. There were some newly implemented rules involving cosplay props and bag checks, which is to be expected, but we felt it was handled very efficiently and professionally. Thank you to all involved in looking out for us convention-goers.

The Renegade team were out in full force over the Bank Holiday weekend – taking photos, experiencing the convention and posting daily run down videos for each day on our Facebook page. These can also be viewed retrospectively from our YouTube channel. Our photo coverage can be viewed from the link below as well.
