Dresses for the discerning geek girl: Shenova
It’s getting easier than ever these days to accessorize with a nerdy theme. Here’s the latest cool indie company making science-themed dresses worthy of note.
Shenova Fashion is a small, independent company run by Holly Renee and stylistically, it packs a real punch. The motto: ‘Make Women in STEM the New Rockstars!’
In case you’re unfamilair with the term, STEM refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Any woman who has grown up with an interest in these fields knows one thing for certain – while it’s generally easy to accessorize your outfit with other fields (there is no end of cool clothing with an arts, music, literature or sporty theme, for example), there’s a real dearth of STEM inspiration when it comes to fashion.
Seeking to rectify this grave error in fashion design, Shenova creates awesome print dresses, with evocative titles such as ‘Fibonacci Sequence’, ‘Gravitational Waves’, ‘Double Helix’, and one for the programmers, ‘Hello World.’

Each dress is priced around $150 – $200, so they’re not cheap, but they are incredibly classy. I hope to see more of these designs on red carpets, formal events and functions the world over.
Shenova has been running since 2012, and what else can I say but I look forward to more collections from them in the future!
