Deadpool movie gets greenlit

The long stagnant Deadpool movie from Fox finally gets a release date.

One of the most anticipated Marvel off shoot movies is finally happening. After being stuck in “production hell” since after X-Men: Origins Wolverine in 2009, Fox has announced a release date of February 12th 2016 for the Merc with the Mouth.

After test footage was leaked last month, showing a CGI Deadpool chasing down a van of thugs, beating them up in standard, yet surprisingly gory comic style, it hinted at a possible 15 or 18 rating. Coupled with his signature 4th wall breaking and multiple personalities this footage sent the fanboys wild, and possibly helped to sway the higher-ups into funding the film.

One of the big questions though, is will Ryan Reynolds still star? A long term fan of the character, he played Wade Wilson in Origins, and was attached to the solo film since it was rumored. It was also heavily hinted that he provided the Motion Capture and voice talent to the Deadpool in the test footage. He recently spoke to Niagara Falls Review about the role and the footage, saying: “The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually.”

It is being directed by Tim Miller, for whom this will be his first big project, after being known for short films such as Rockfish, A Gentlemen’s Duel and the Oscar nominated Gopher Broke.
